Surfer Freediving Courses:

Apnea for surfers

I’ve been teaching surfers how to Freedive in the UK for many years, and have even travelled abroad to run courses. I run full Freediving courses (AIDA 1* or AIDA 2*) for those surfers wanting to add a sport to their reportoire for those calm days with no waves and also to build up the Apnea skills for surfing.

And we offer a 'surfers apnea course' which is a 6 hour course designed specifically to cover the skills required to improve your breath hold and survive big waves.

Some of the benefits of doing a freediving course for surfing include:

  • Increased Water confidence
  • Better ability to deal with hold downs effectively
  • You spend less energy underwater, leading to longer in water times
  • Perfect sport for when there is no surf
  • Cross over skills for spearfishing for those barbeques on the beach
  • Fitness benefits

Mental preparedness is as important as physical conditioning. We deal with both.

Option 1: Surfers Apnea course: £120 (course can be paid below under AIDA 1*)

Freediving, when practised properly, is a very safe sport. However there are risks so always dive with the supervision of a QUALIFIED and competent buddy. Never hold your breath alone, even in water as shallow as your bath. Someone needs to be there who knows exactly what they are looking for and what to do in case of a blackout. A casual observer or even a lifeguard who hasn't been specifically trained in apnea would not be suitable.
